Vintage Beads

As a collector of gemstones and beads, I’ve recently discovered some really unusual “vintage” beads, which may divert my current style of jewelry.  The 20’s through the 50’s have always been of particular interest to me – I love the flapper look and the bohemian styles.  There are so many different types of old beads, and I’m realizing 11337tI need to do a lot of research before I seriously begin this new journey.  Some of my recent finds are Italian glass and Lucite beads.  The pictured Italian Lucite beads are shaped like chunky beads and have a diamond design all the way around the middle. Though described by the seller as “red” they look like more of a deep coral to me. Color is always the main attraction for me. I found them at a trunk show by A Grain of Sand, a local “vintage” bead collector.  My favorite is this purple bead, looks like river stones, and is a very unusual shape. They matched practically nothing else in the store, but, I love them! 11137tI did try to select some great colors for spring and summer, keeping in mind the recommended Pantone palettes.  I’m looking forward to creating something special with these great finds.
